Like any other surgery, Asian rhinoplasty requires some preparation on the part of the patient. Your doctor will provide you with a list of restrictions and suggestions during your initial consultation, which you will need to follow prior to surgery. Doing so will ensure that you are healthy enough for the procedure and also reduce your risk of complications.
Most surgeons have a general set of pre-surgery ground rules that can apply to any surgery and then add in a few extras depending on your specific procedure and their personal preferences.
Boost Your Health
You should be as healthy as possible before going into surgery to reduce your risk of infection and make your recovery that much easier. The best way to accomplish this is to start early, at least a few weeks before your surgery. Take vitamin supplements, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E and iron, to aid your recovery. If you are a smoker, try to quit. Don’t drink alcohol at least a week prior to surgery. Avoid blood thinners like aspirin. Essentially, you want to be the healthiest version of yourself before the big day.
Stock Up on Supplies
Don’t wait until you need something to go get it! Make sure you have plenty of pillows, ice packs, your favorite snacks, cotton balls, ibuprofen or other medications, basically anything you think you might need during your recovery. Ask your doctor what supplies would be good to have on hand and be sure to buy extras. You don’t want to wish for something when you’re having trouble getting around.
Call for Backup
You’re going to want a good support system waiting for you when you’re out of surgery. At the very least, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from the doctor’s office. Having someone around to help you take care of your kids, manage your household, or grab you the television remote when you can’t reach it will go a long way to aiding your recovery.
Take Your Time
The best way to get through your recovery is to get as much rest as possible and avoid exerting yourself too much. Don’t push yourself to get through your normal routine if you aren’t up to it. Make sure you take enough time away from work, too! It’s recommended that you stay home for at least a week, but you may need two weeks if your recovery is more difficult. You should be getting plenty of rest before your surgery, too, so that your body will be up to the task of healing you quickly.
